What is there to do?
Will there be food?
A number of restaurants will be open in the building, we will have a complete list closer to the climb.
How long does it last?
The opening ceremony will start at approx. 8:30am and last 20 mins along with the bagpipers leading climbers into the stairways.
This is an all day event with three heats.
Heat 1: 8:56am
Heat 2: 11:00am
Heat 3: 1:00pm
How many climbers do you allow to participate?
We only allow 343 climbers to participate. Each participant must be employed by a fire department. You may be a volunteer, paid career, or retired firefighter to participate.
How old do I have to be?
You must be 18 years old to participate. If you are a cadet you may request to volunteer at the event.
Can I substitute for another climber?
We do not allow substitutions. The spot will be filled from the wait list first. All sign ups are a non refundable donation to the Kansas City 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb.
How do I know when I get to climb?
We have 3 heats through out the morning. Each participant will find out the morning of the climb when they will climb. We get frequent request to switch times. We request that you commit the day to the climb. TAKE THE DAY TO REMEMBER YOUR FALLEN BROTHERS. We understand this is hard to plan for families to coordinate with kids.
Will there be food?
We will have breakfast for the climbers provided by FIRST WATCH.
Is this a timed race?
No, This is a memorial event to honor the 343 firefighters killed on 9-11-2001. We ask that you work as a team to complete the event. We do not allow individuals to separate from there teams. We also ask that you do not wear music headphones, ipods, ect.
How will teams be decided?
We will pair you with your fire department members in teams of 4-6 members. You may request to be on an individuals team. All teams will be matched up with their departments, so that you may all climb close together.
Example: If you have 8 members from your department you will have two teams of 4 side by side. You may have other individials added to your group to even teams out.
What is required of me?
We ask that you devote and commit to helping with setup and break down on Sept. 6th and 7th at the Town Pavilion located at 12th and main.
